Health Coaching is a service available for community members to have the opportunity to speak privately with an RN or LVN regarding health issues. This also includes nutritional information. We do blood pressure screenings, as well as check your blood glucose levels. We are happy to discuss your health questions and concerns, and provide general health care information. Discussing your health conditions, as well as care and treatment options, can help in making informed decisions. It can also help you communicate more effectively with your provider.  All information shared is general. If you have further questions or more specific questions regarding your health, please contact a physician.

We do have a list of free and low cost clinics available. WAC is not connected with these clinics. The list is for information and your convenience only.

Community Garden

West Avenue Compassion’s Community Garden was created to educate clients in gardening and producing healthy fruits and vegetables that are many times to expensive through the grocery stores.  Through the Community Garden, 10 families have the opportunity to plant, harvest and care for four 4X4 boxes.  Educational classes are conducted each month to provide instructional assistance on the processes and how-to’s of taking care of a garden.  The clients care for their box for the spring and fall planting seasons.  For more information, please contact Amy at 210-573-2847.

Social Service Referral Service

In partnering with the San Antonio Food Bank, West Avenue Compassion offers Social Services Referrals.  Through the application process, clients can take advantage of working with the SA Food Bank over the phone to qualify for governmental assistant programs such as SNAP, TANF/AFDC, CHIP, etc.  See Amy on Tuesdays from 12:00-2:00pm for an application.
